Interview with Comic Creator Cristian Roux
While Ted and I were taking care of business at this year’s San Diego Comic Con, an amazing Australian-based artist and stellar human named Cristian Roux approached the Puna Press table. Drawn in by Ted’s fantastic stipple work and also the inimitable comic series Horn Dog, Ted and Cristian immediately struck up conversations about art and small press tables at the convention. When Cristian broke out his comic, Fallen Star, both Ted’s and my jaw hit the floor. The line work, the panel angles of the scenes, and overall story was amazing. It didn’t take long before Ted decided taking Puna Press to Australia to hit up a comic convention and/or zine fest was a must.
Besides being a moody poet, I also am a podcast producer and host. One podcast I have been hosting since January of 2014 is called Gutter Talk and is released on the MakingComics.com site. It’s a site dedicated to educating comic creators of all ages on everything you need to know about creating comics, from art to writing to publishing to printing. I’ve been lucky enough to have some pretty great guests on the show, Ted Washington included, and I just had to have Cristian on the show. Click here to take a listen to the episode.
To make things better, it was our 100th episode. Having such a great artist and an even greater person on the show really was a fantastic way to celebrate the milestone. Also, if you’re into comics and art as a whole, definitely subscribe to the show. You can find it on iTunes or any other podcast downloading service you use.
Enjoy!
