Of The Body part 6
“Desire spins the wheel of life and must have reward. Not that you get it but you get the idea of getting it.”
Of The Body part 6
The air was thick and tacky with the stench of vomit, excrement, and urine, all three rained in patchy intermittent showers. Everything awash grey green yellowish brown, the murk only enhanced by the escalating heat. Back to back, chest to chest, side to side, all with arms raised high they stood. Faces up mouths agap there was no room to turn, no room to breath. If one moved, they all moved, the motion of cilia in some organ. Those above looked down on these below, those below looked up at those above, and those on the sides looked across. A cacophony of shrieks, and shrills wherever whenever the hot rains fell. The only source of sustenance all swallowed greedily, trying to catch solid matter in their hands and mouths. Motions of violence. Space was non-existent, some would vanish, only to be replaced by one or two more. Time stood still, Eternity loomed.
It got hotter, a deafening chorus of pleas rose and movement all but ceased with God’s manifestation.
“I knew you would come,” said Lucifer proudly. “I told them all you would come. And that you would embrace them all. That you would forgive them and show them mercy and let them know peace. And give them the things that I cannot have.”
There was no response, only the background chorus.
“Of course not you bastard,” Lucifer seething, “remove them and it frees me. They are your shackles.”
“He is yours,” God seemed tired.
“You used him against me. The bus was mine.”
“He is yours.”
“Now that you’re done, he becomes a victim of free will.”
The pleas only.
“Then as you said before, his role is incomplete.”
“So he will live on,” God a little more roused, “So the game goes on.”
“The shackles bind us both, but you have the key. However I do have an ally, Time.”
“Luc my friend, every moment is eternal. Time is a trickster.”
“You don’t know Time. You’re Eternity’s servant. Time is mean, unforgiving, unyielding, short and sweet, long and beautiful. How would you know? It is beyond you, or should I say you are beyond it,” Lucifer laughed, the rains picked up.
“Oh Luc, whatever sanity you had left is clearly gone now.” God was in, “Time is but a part of the body. The whole is Eternity. Now, is the breath of the body, moments giving life to Eternity. Time itself is eternal. But we stray.”
“You know the answer, you know the outcome.”
“You choose life, a new tact.”
“I’m a lab rat running a maze with treats dispensed only by you. I hate you more now, you hear that, now, as in eternity, than ever before.” Lucifer chuckled lightly, “He will never know Hell, not now, not as long as I’m here. He will grow to hate you as much as I, Time will see to that. Would you taint life with eternity? I don’t think so.”
“You seek to test me.” God laughed full, thunder cracked, the heat picked up and the chorus of pleas persisted.
“You will take it back or him back, you always have.”
“Luc, my friend, your boldness is beyond reason. This role was made for you or vice versa.”
“Go on, belittle me you fuck. They know who is really the great evil,” Lucifer paused, the pleas remained. “You act without cause, without consequence, but not this time. He will live, he will know Time.”
“Lucifer, what has Time been telling you?”
“I will be free.”
“Time says this?” sarcastically.
“You will act.”
“I always do.”
“Then free me.”
God laughed.
“You forgive them, take them in. Your pets. What am I to do for Eternity’s sake, play with your stupid humans forever? Time says no.”
“Luc, this is your part, only Eternity knows its end.”
“You know.”
“Oh Lucifer,” God was fading.
“You know his end!” Lucifer loudly after the dissipating God, “You will take him back!”
“We will see,” a whisper soft as imagination. Hell bellowed, heat beyond measure, all was a flurry. And the rains fell, more vomit, shit and piss.
