Alma K. Valdivia Ochoa Features at Palabra!
PALABRA
an evening of poetry hosted by Ted Washington
Featured reader Alma K. Valdivia Ochoa
Alma was raised in San Diego living between both her parents and two foster homes. She is bilingual in Spanish/English and she enjoys writing in both but says her best writings are in Spanish where feelings and emotions seem clearer. She writes of past love in the present as if love, passion and heartbreak just occured. She knows life is filled with real feelings and emotions that in life we do not usually get the chance or opportunity to express and so she does so in her writing because it is mostly a unique platform to exercise and process them. Art being an interpretation of life, poetry being a self expression of life, love and everything in between with the ability to understand our own state of emotion just a little deeper and a bit more beautifully is a way to evoke and manifest the likeness of our thoughts on life. Alma loves her writing journey and sees it as a sense of her growth, her responsibility and her much needed reason for some of her happiness.
After the featured reading we will have an open mic for anyone who wants to read. Everyone is welcome to come and share a poem, song lyrics, reading or a short story or just bring your ears for listening and enjoy the evening. Original poetry is always appreciated. Everyone needs some place to speak their minds and Palabra is that place. We are an inclusive and supportive group that aim to provide a safe, nonjudgmental, positive environment, so all talent levels are welcome.
Doors open at 6:30pm and Poetry starts at 7:00pm sharp! We will have a sign-up sheet available at the counter. Each poet will speak for 3-5 minutes each so that everyone who wants to read can have a chance! Palabra poetry night will be every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month.
