Poetry & Art Series 2013 An Evening in Translation with Nikola Madzirov and Open Mic
On Thursday, Sept. 26, Poetry & Art Series 2013 features poet and translator Nikola Madzirov with special guests from Poetry International, SDSU’s annual literary journal edited by Ilya Kaminsky. DJ Gill Sotu will provide music. There will be treats and beverages as always. Bring wine or snacks to share and get in free. Those who would like to participate on the open mic that follows the features, please contact Michael Klam at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 619-957-3264. Visit us online at sandiego-art.org.
Madzirov is the author of several collections of poetry including Studentski Zbor award-winner Locked in the City. His additional honors include the Hubert Burda European Poetry Award, the Miladinov Brothers poetry prize and residencies at the University of Iowa’s International Writing Program. There will also be readings of select translations from Poetry International by MFA poets from SDSU.
The Poetry & Art Series (established in the summer of 2001) in the Museum of the Living Artist is itself both a unique show and a unique venue. Poets and audiences gather in the museum to witness a live collaboration between writers and visual artists.
Poetry & Art, the San Diego Art Institute’s quarterly museum series, gives regional artists an opportunity to express themselves in a variety of forms and styles. Audiences hear poetry and prose in dialogue with painting, photography, sculpture, music and dance. Any featured guests serve not only as entertainment but also as inspiration for developing artists. The free speech event reveals the diversity and importance of the region’s artists.
