My name is Naraly Lopez. I’m 20 years old and until this year I started to write poetry. This spring was my last semester at Southwestern Community College, so I decided to take a Creative Writing class, both for fun and because I noticed that writing helped a lot with my anxiety. My sister and mom noticed how much I had changed in just the fact that I was writing; I wasn’t as sad and looked forward to doing something. So, they pushed me to La Palabra’s open mic and I was extremely nervous! I received supporting feedback and I fell in love with the community. In my writing, you’ll find out that I’m a very family-oriented type of person and that I’m not a very optimistic type of person. I write for the sake of my mental health because it allows me to express myself – writing in a way allows me to breathe.Thank you for listening and supporting! Que viva La Palabra 🙂
