My name is Maria Stella I. Cubias. I’m Twenty-Seven years old, quarantined in San Diego. I’ve been writing poetry since I was a little girl. I recently started putting my poetry out into the public eyes when I was attempting to overcome one the darkest times of my life. I started to take my writing more seriously when I had multiple followers on Instagram (@nekoinacup) reach out, that felt alone, and thanked me for helping them feel reassured that they aren’t the only ones struggling. My only goal I have in life, in my writing, and in my heart is to reach one person or help one person feel like they can win against depression, anxiety, heartbreak, grief, or give them hope that there will be better days. I put my poetry out there because I was alone and hated feeling that way and didn’t want anyone to feel like I did. I want to reach more people; I want to help more people. My first open mic experience was at La Palabra and I was nervous, but the feedback I received led me to continue to commit to open mics and even gave me the courage to submit some of my poems to be published. This quarantine has put a lot of things on hold in my life but before this, I was overwhelmed with the feedback and opportunities arising because of my writing, it made me realize I needed to slow down a little and make sure I was mentally prepared for what was to come. I’m grateful people can relate to my poetry, it’s been described as deep, raw, depressing and erotic. Thanks for reading, listening and supporting.
After the featured reading we will have an open mic.
Featured Poet starts at 7:00pm PST. Open-Mic starts around 7:30pm PST Palabra will be the 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month.
