A dizzying presentation of a few of the most recent books published by Garden Oak Press, featuring local San Diego poets Estelle Gilson, Joan Gerstein, Michael Klam, Jay M. Mower, Penny Perry.. plus, from the brand new Garden Oak book Poems That Speak To Us: Selected Poems of Steve Kowit, favorite excerpts by the book’s editors Joe Milosch & Jim Moreno, with additional poetic insight on Kowit, the man and his work, from Escondido poet Al Zolynas.

Award-winning poets Shannon Tate Jonas from Buffalo, NY and Valarie Hastings from San Francisco, CA
Valarie is the 2020 winner of the Steve Kowit Poetry Prize, a recipient of an Honorable Mention for the 2020 Allen Ginsberg Award and a 2019 Pushcart nominee. Her first collection of poems, Searching for Dandelion Greens, was released in June 2021 from Garden Oak Press.
Shannon has two published books of poetry, Battle Sleep (2016) from Brick Road Poetry Press and The Rake (2020) from Garden Oak Press; his poem “The Forest Torso” received an Honorable Mention in the 2018 Steve Kowit Prize competition of the San Diego Poetry Annual. Shannon teaches creative writing at SUNY Fredonia.

An open mic for everyone on the sign-up board follows in the third hour of the afternoon. Note that a brief intermission follows each of the afternoon’s segments.
